AI & Software Engineering

1. Nebius Raises $1B for AI Infrastructure

Nebius Group secured $1 billion in convertible notes ($500 M due 2029, $500 M due 2031), aiming to scale GPU clusters and AI-native cloud platforms globally. Listed on Nasdaq and backed by Nvidia and Accel, the raise reflects strong institutional confidence amid a boom in AI compute demand.

2. Gemini Adds Video Analysis

Google’s Gemini now lets users upload up to five-minute video clips for frame-by-frame AI analysis on iOS, Android, and web—no subscription needed. It can describe scenes, answer questions about timestamps, and summarize content. Raises fresh privacy questions around video data storage

3. Apple Reportedly Considering $14B Acquisition of Perplexity AI

In June 2025, Apple considered acquiring Perplexity AI in a deal worth $14 billion, highlighting its ambition to strengthen AI search capabilities as competition with Google and Microsoft intensifies.

Cybersecurity

1. SaaS Supply‑Chain Threats Rise

There’s been a surge in supply‑chain attacks targeting SaaS through vulnerable third-party tools. Hackers are poking holes through old-school APIs and bloated permissions—pushing experts to demand sharper audits, slimmer access rules, and zero-trust frameworks.

2. 16 billion Credentials Leak Triggers Global Security Alarms

A colossal database of 16 billion credentials—aggregated from years of infostealer malware logs and past breaches—was exposed across 30 open databases.  While not a single hack, the scale poses a major threat to reused-password accounts. Experts are urging users to swap passwords, flip on MFA, and keep an eye out for leaks, as attackers crank up automated credential-stuffing blitzes across big-name platforms.

Quantum Computing

1. Quantum-Safe Encryption Standards Finalized by NIST

June 2025 saw a major cybersecurity milestone as NIST introduced its first set of quantum-proof encryption standards—FIPS 203 (Kyber), FIPS 204 (Dilithium), and FIPS 205 (SPHINCS+), with HQC on standby. Built to resist the future threat of quantum attacks that could crack conventional methods like RSA and ECC, these new algorithms lay the groundwork for securing digital infrastructure in a world where quantum computing is no longer theoretical.

2. IBM Launches First Modular Quantum Supercomputer Architecture

IBM unveiled a modular quantum supercomputer architecture with Quantum System Two, enabling scalable, entanglement-linked multi-chip setups. This marks a shift from monolithic chips to swappable modules connected via long-range couplers. IBM’s roadmap includes systems like Loon, Kookaburra, and Starling—aiming for fault-tolerant, large-scale quantum computing by 2029 with advanced error correction.

3. Fastest LPU from Samsung × Groq

At SAFE Forum San Jose, Samsung Foundry and Groq unveiled plans for a 4 nm language-processing unit (LPU), claiming it to be the fastest AI chip under development. Mass production expected in late 2025; aimed at robotics, autonomous vehicles, and telecom.

Programming & Dev Tools

1. Java Celebrates 30 Years with Major AI-Powered Upgrade to the JVM

As Java turned 30 in June 2025, it got a major AI-powered upgrade built into the Java Virtual Machine (JVM). The update adds smart code suggestions, machine learning for faster performance, and better memory management. Java’s newest updates strengthen its enterprise foundation while adding the agility developers need to build modern, AI-powered applications.

2. Kotlin 2.2.0 Released with Performance and Tooling Improvements

JetBrains rolled out Kotlin 2.2.0 with major speed boosts, upgraded tooling, and refined language enhancements—aimed at making development smoother across platforms. The update streamlines development across Android, backend, and multiplatform projects, with key bug fixes for added stability.

Web3 & Decentralized Tech

 1. Decentralized Identity Consortium Launches Global SSI Network

In June 2025, governments and Web3 firms launched the world’s first global Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) network, letting users control and share verified credentials across borders—no central authority needed. Platforms like Moca Chain and Eicol enable secure, cross-chain identity sharing using tools like zkTLS and oracles. It’s a major leap forward for decentralized digital identity and privacy.

2. US SEC Chair Directs Staff to Consider "Conditional Exemptive Relief" for Digital Assets

SEC Chair Paul Atkins announced a directive for SEC staff to consider a "conditional exemptive relief framework" for digital asset participants. This move aims to facilitate the on-chain development of products and services, signaling a potential shift towards a more accommodating regulatory environment for the digital asset industry in the United States.

3. PNG Gets Its First Update Since 2003

June 2025 marked a major leap for web graphics as the W3C unveiled PNG 3.0—its first overhaul in 20 years. This modernized format now handles HDR imagery, built-in animations, and embedded photo metadata, making it a strong fit for today’s visually demanding content. It’s already compatible with major browsers and tools like Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Photoshop, iOS, and macOS.

4. Google Earth Turns 20 with Time‑Travel Street View

To celebrate its 20th anniversary, Google Earth introduced historical Street View, letting users scroll back in time and explore how cities and neighborhoods have changed over the years New aerial and environment layers—like tree cover and land temps—add extra muscle for urban planning and climate deep dives.
