The Art of Logging Out: Internet Self-Care Edition

The Art of Logging Out: Internet Self-Care Edition

When was the last time you closed your laptop without immediately reaching for your phone? We all love the internet. It connects us, entertains us, teaches us, and sometimes… completely drains us. Between the endless pings, the internet trends, and the 99 open tabs (don’t deny it), our brains rarely get a break.

That’s where Internet Self-Care Day steps in. A reminder that our digital lives need a little TLC too. Think of it as a refresh button, not just for your devices, but for you.

Step 1: The Joy of Logging Out

Log out. Yep, that little “sign out” button? It’s a secret door to peace. You don’t always need to scroll through every story, reply to every email, or binge every video in one sitting. The internet will still be there tomorrow. Pinky promise.

Step 2: Feed Yourself Well

Your feed is like your fridge... what you stock it with matters. If it’s all junk, you’ll feel it. Unfollow accounts that drain you. Subscribe to things that make you smile. You’re the boss of your scroll.

Step 3: Step Away, It’s Okay

We know the FOMO is real. But stepping away from the screen isn’t always missing out. Breaks are important. Stand up, stretch, sip water. Pet your dog. Look out the window and notice the sky (yes, it’s still there). Talk to an actual human with, you know, a voice. Your brain will thank you.

Step 4: Boundaries Are Beautiful

It’s okay to have “do not disturb” hours. Do you really need to hear every ping from every app? Nope. Boundaries protect your peace. Set “do not disturb” hours. Mute what doesn’t serve you. Treat your attention like it’s precious, because it is.

Step 5: Be Kind to Yourself

Not every photo needs to be perfect. Not every thought needs a filter. Not every day needs to be posted. Be gentle with yourself... you’re more than your likes and shares.

And please don’t fall into the trap of comparing your life to what you see online. Most of it is either edited, curated, or only half the story. Your journey is your own, and that’s more than enough.

A Little Love

At IOCOD, we know the internet can feel like a second home. It’s where we work, connect, learn, and grow. But just like any home, it needs boundaries... doors you can close, rooms you don’t always enter, quiet corners where you can rest.

This Internet Self-Care Day, let’s practice a different kind of connection: one with ourselves. So today, gift yourself a break. Drink some water, stretch your legs, look at the sky, and let your mind wander without a Wi-Fi signal guiding it. Protect your peace like it’s your strongest password.

Take care of yourself, both online and off.

With love,
A fellow human who’s also learning to log off
