Swap Your Stuff: How IOCOD Does Environment Day
At IOCOD, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword. We like to roll up our sleeves and actually do things that are fun and meaningful. One small step (or swap) at a time.
So, when World Environment Day comes around, we go a little beyond posters and potted plants. One of our favorite traditions is the Swap Your Stuff event. And this June 5th, we proudly hosted the second edition. Just like last year, it was a hit!
Here's how it went down
Leading up to the day, everyone at IOCOD brought in items they no longer used. From books and gadgets to shoes, perfumes, jewelry, and even some seriously cool collectibles. These pre-loved treasures were handed over to our HR team by June 3, ready for their big moment.
By the evening of June 5th, our swap zone was all set up: tables filled with goodies, perfectly arranged for curious eyes and new owners. But this wasn’t just any “grab what you like” scene. Nope. We did it the IOCOD way. Our HR showcased every single item. One by one. Explained what it was. Then asked: “Okay, who wants this?”
And that’s when the fun really kicked in.
Let the Swapping Begin!
Some items had more than a few fans. You wouldn’t believe the number of hands that went up for certain things! For some items, there were 7, 8… even 10 people interested.
So, what did we do? We drew lots. Simple. Fair. And surprisingly exciting. There was tension. Laughter. And plenty of “ah man, I almost got it!” moments.
There were perfumes, clothes, shoes, accessories, handbags, and some amazing books like Rich Dad, Poor Dad. And then there were the fun finds — like an anime figurine of Sasuke Uchiha (Naruto fans, assemble!) and a Batmobile toy that had so many people wanting it. Guess we’re all still a bunch of kids at heart.
What started as a fun little swap ended up sparking so many conversations about mindful, sustainable living. Plus, lots of us walked away with “new” favorites.
Until the Next Swap
When you think about it, it’s pretty cool. Stuff that would’ve just been sitting around is now making someone else happy. It might seem like a small step, but events like these remind us that small steps can add up to a bigger change. And doing it as a team? That makes it even more rewarding.
That’s it for this round of Swap Your Stuff. Until next year’s swap… maybe start setting aside some cool stuff now!
